Friday Kitchen Gadgets: Cooking with Kids
This week’s Friday Gadgets Blog is dedicated to parents and children. When I was a little girl my mom would bring me into the kitchen and help her make dinner. By the time I was 8 I was creating dished of my own for the family dinner. I would have to say it was because both my parents took the time to teach me how to cook, that I have not only have wonderful memories, but also a deep appreciation for cooking. Getting your kids to eat better and help in the kitchen is always a challenge but with these tools you can’t go wrong.
Don’t you just hate doing dishes? I do! I hate doing dishes so much I make my boyfriend do them (hey I do the cooking), but what if doing the dishes could be fun! What if there could be a way to make dish time play time? That is where Bubble Scrubber comes in. Its a scrub brush and a bubble wand all in one! Wash a dish and blow a couple bubbles. This thing is so much fun you might even get the kids to do the dishes without having to ask!
Remember when you were a kid and your mom used to “airplane” your food into your mouth. She even added those cool airplane sound effects just to make you interested in eating mashed up peas. Now you can do that for your kids too, only with a little more finesse! Introducing Airfork One. Now your kids won’t look at you funny when you start making airplane sounds and bring food to their mouths. Just remember that this is intended for little kids so please do not try to feed your teenagers or significant other with this fork, no matter how much fun it is!
Teaching your kids how to cook is a great way to bond and build math and time skills. However, it can be a scary place for any parent to have their kids because of things like hot surfaces and sharp objects. However, with tools like these and a careful eye, your kids will become master chefs in no time:
Cutting vegetables and fruits is all part of the fun of cooking but children really shouldn’t be handling sharp objects until you know they can handle themselves without cutting themselves. That is why you need the Curious Chef 3 Pice Nylon Knife Set. These knives have serrated edges so they can cut veggies, but blunt edges so little fingers are safe. These knives are also designed with little hands in mind so your children will have no problem helping you prepare dinner.
When I cook dinner for my family it can get a little messy. In fact, my apron has so many stains on it that I could be a buffet table! When it comes to cooking with your kids things can get even more messy! However, if you are prepared, everyone can leave the kitchen nice and clean with the help of this adorable 4 piece Child Chef Textile Set from Curious Chef. Not only will your child not ruin his or her clothes but they will feel like a pro with an apron, a chef’s hat, and oven mitts made just for their little hands.
If you are going to be cooking with your kids then you might as well have a cookbook that is geared towards children. I personally like the Kids’ Fun & Healthy Cookbook by Nicola Graimes because, not only are the recipes in this book kid friendly, but they are also healthy. Considering the state of our children’s health (not to mention our own) these days this is a great way to start your children cooking and eating right from the get go.
