Wheatgrass
Last week, over at the craft service table at work, I noticed that there was a big hunk of someone’s front lawn sitting between the bananas and the bagels. After a moment, the dude in charge of providing the cast and crew with adequate snackage, took a knife, hacked away a big chunk ‘o grass and placed it into a very loud contraption. He then added water and cranked the machine like one would a Victoria.
A dark green and foamy liquid started flowing (ok, more like dripping) into a bowl, which then got poured into a small plastic shot glass. One of our show’s writers took said shot glass, downed the contents and strolled off.
What was THAT?
Apparently, THAT was wheatgrass. What is wheatgrass you might ask (as I did)…? According to wikipedia… it is the, “young grass of the common wheat plant, Triticum aestivum, that is freshly juiced or dried into powder for animal and human consumption. Both provide chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes.”
Wait… did I just read that correctly… it provides chlorophyll? Would consumers then go through photosynthesis? If ingested, would I have the power to process my food without chewing… just by looking at the sun?
I was told that one shot of wheatgrass contained all of the nutrients one should obtain from the vegetables they should eat in one day… that’s crazy! “Pour me a shot!” I said enthusiastically…
Snip, drop, pour, crank, pour… and DRINK! Now, before I got to drinking, I got to smelling… yep… smelled exactly how I thought it would… like grass. Now to drink… yep, tasted exactly how I thought it would… like grass.
But it really wasn’t bad. I mean it wasn’t super flavorful… and yes, it did taste like I was nibbling through a pasture like a cow, but it didn’t have a very STRONG grassy taste. Although, the aftertaste of the meadow did stay with me for a few hours afterwards.
Now I just wonder… does my belly need to be regularly dethatched and aerated?

Wheatgrass shots are ALL about the chaser! Have some juice, a snack, anything to eat after you drink it down or you’ll be exhaling grass all day long…
Hey, I recently started reading this blog – thank you for writing. Anyway, I’m now subscribed to your RSS feed on my laptop, so thanks!
Hey Jack 3d… so very sorry that I did not respond to this until now. As I explained in “Where Have I Been?” posted on July 12th… it has been a crazy bunch ‘o months. I hope you keep reading and enjoying!
